When you’re on a yacht charter, there are some unspoken rules that you need to follow to make the experience a positive one for everyone involved. Yacht charters are supposed to be fun and relaxing—not stressful! The following list is by no means exhaustive, but it does cover most of the basics.
Always respect your yacht
Respect the boat, crew, and other passengers.
- Be considerate of others’ needs. You are in a small space with other people, so be mindful of what you can do to make them more comfortable or help out with chores if needed.
- Don’t hog the bathroom for too long or take over seating when other people are waiting in line for snacks or drinks!
- Be mindful of the environment. Don’t leave trash all over the deck–take it down into your cabin with you so that it doesn’t end up polluting our oceans (or just throw it away)!
- Also, try not to use too much water when showering since we want our planet’s resources protected as well!
Don’t take too much without leaving something in return
If you’re going to be on a boat for a few days, it’s important to not take more than you need. This means that if there are only two people on board and one person has an entire suitcase of clothes, the other person should probably leave some behind. If there are four people in total but one person brings two suitcases full of stuff, then maybe everyone should reconsider their packing strategy before they go out again.
Respect the other people on board
If you’re chartering a yacht, some rules should be followed. First and foremost, respect the captain and crew. They are often busy running the ship and helping passengers with any questions or concerns they may have. Don’t take up too much room on board – especially if other guests are sharing the space with you! Also, don’t monopolize the TV or other entertainment options. It’s important not to hog them either; everyone should be able to enjoy these while they’re sailing. Finally, don’t be rude or disrespectful towards other people who are also on board with you; even if they aren’t paying customers themselves (such as friends), remember that this is still someone else’s boat so keep an eye out for their comfort as well!
Be mindful of other people’s stuff and property
Don’t touch other people’s things. It’s common courtesy to ask for permission before touching someone else’s personal belongings, and it can be a bit awkward if you grab something without asking first. Think of it this way: if it were your own property, would you want someone else to take it out of your hands? Probably not! So keep yourself from doing exactly that by asking for permission first – it will save everyone involved from some unnecessary discomfort later on in their trip.
Don’t get drunk before dinner is served
It’s a good idea to eat something before you drink alcohol. Drinking on an empty stomach can lead to nausea and vomiting, dehydration, or even a hangover. If you become very drunk, you may be a danger to other passengers and yourself. So drink responsibly. After all, your vacation on the yacht should be a positive experience.
Be neat about your activities and belongings
When you are on a boat, there are probably several other people with you. To avoid making them uncomfortable, there are several simple rules to follow:
- Don’t leave your stuff everywhere.
- Don’t leave food out.
- Don’t leave your shoes on the floor, or anywhere else that isn’t a shoe rack or closet space reserved for them.
- If you’re going to take a shower, don’t leave your wet towels hanging around–they’ll only get moldy and gross! Instead, hang them up in the bathroom after use so they can dry properly before being put away again later on in the day.
Pay attention to safety regulations and protocols
Safety regulations and protocols are there to protect you, the yacht, the crew, and the environment. The captain has been trained to follow these rules and will explain them to you before your trip begins. Pay attention when he does so that you understand how things work on board.
